Health and Safety Publications Ltd under the spotlight

We were delighted to be the feature article of the November edition of the Health and Safety Review, Mr. Herbert Mulligan offered a positive review of our company and our products.

A young Irish company is establishing a reputation as a publisher of good quality health and safety materials, which are useful as training aids and as sources of information.
The company, Health and Safety Publications, which is based in Mallow, Co. Cork, and was founded by two young safety professionals, has already built up an impressive client list, with clients in both Ireland the Britain.
The booklets have been written from training perspective, but in fact are guides to the subject matter. They include booklets on manual handling, fork trucks and abrasive wheels.
Take for example the Abrasive Wheels Course Notes. The 52-page booklet covers risk assessment, marking system, storage/handling/transportation, step-by-step procedures for mounting and changing wheels, ring tests, components and assembly, dressing an abrasive wheel, work rest adjustment, balancing a wheel and safe work practice.
This focus on the practical is completed with notes on applicable legislation. The booklet is comprehensive and well-illustrated. Some of the illustrations warn of dangers, such as entanglement because of loose clothing or untied long hair. Other illustrations are technical in nature. The Manual Handling Course Notes and Fork Truck guide are similarly detailed and illustrated.
The emphasis is on the practical aspects of the topic of the booklet, with references to the law interspersed throughout the text. One of the advantages of using the guides in conjunction with training is that trainees can be given their own booklet, which they can refer to when they need to refresh their knowledge.
Health and Safety Publications plans to publish two more booklets in the near future, one on fire and the other on first aid. While the concept for the guides and the initial outlines are written by Health and Safety Publication’s founders, the booklets are reviewed by technical experts.
At €3.50 per copy, the booklets are priced competitively and there are discounts for bulk purchases and the guides can be customised for company use. The founders of the company highlight the fact that the booklets are printed in Ireland. For more details, contact Marek Szepietowski or Roseleen Cronin: email or visit
