First Aid Books (Ireland) – Ray Carney
Ray has been instrumental in working with us to write and adapt our suite of First Aid Books for the Irish market. Ray is an advanced paramedic and PHECC facilitator. He has been involved in teaching first aid since the early 1990’s. This was the springboard to a career in pre-hospital emergency care which extended into pre hospital education. Ray has extensive experience of developing and delivering learning programmes across a wide range of clinical levels. He has completed the UCD University Teaching and Learning diploma. In 2016 he was seconded to PHECC to develop and deliver the Cardiac First Response Course training materials. He has a keen interest in first aid education and in recent developments in occupational first aid and transition to the First Aid Response course.
Abrasive Wheels Book – Geoff Clarke
TASSIA was established in 2000 by Geoff Clarke to provide comprehensive and up to date training and safety advice to the grinding industry. Formerly technical manager with Universal Grinding Wheel Co Ltd with over 50 year’s experience in abrasives technology and 25 years of active involvement in the preparation and implementation of safety standards for the abrasives industry. In addition to being technical consultant to FEPA, the Federation of European Producers of Abrasives and to the British Abrasives Federation (BAF), Geoff is the chairman of the BSI Standards Committee for abrasives, the principal UK expert and former chairman of the ISO Standards Committee for abrasives and the principal UK expert for CEN, the European Committee for Standardisation. He has been instrumental in the revisions of the FEPA and HS(G)17 safety codes, the widely recognised codes of practice for the industry. He is also an inspector/auditor for the Organisation for the Safety of Abrasives (oSa).
Powered Pallet Truck Book – Richard Evans
Richard who collaborated with us to write our MEWP and Forklift books is an RTITB Instructor Tutor and Operator Instructor/Examiner who provides consultation to major lift truck organisations.
First Aid Books (UK) – Justin Honey Jones
Justin Honey-Jones MA (PDET), Cert Ed (PCET), QTLS, FSET, FCMI, FBILD, FCIEA. Justin is an Emergency Medical Technician with the London Ambulance Service and a former British Army Reserve Combat Medical Technician. He has been delivering and assessing first aid and pre hospital care courses for 10 years. He holds a Certificate in Education and a Master of Arts in Professional Development, Education and Training. He is also a Fellow of the Society for Education and Training and holds Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills status (QTLS). In addition to teaching, he is involved in the quality assurance of regulated qualifications and is a qualification and assessment writer.
MEWP Book – Roy Nightingale
Roy Nightingale, JP. CFIOSH. I.Eng. FIET. Chartered S&H Practitioner, Consultant Safety Engineer worked with us on writing our MEWP book. He has substantial experience with Government departments and MOD both in the UK and overseas, gained as ex Engineering Safety Authority.
His Specialties are CE marking certification of electronic, electrical and mechanical products including large complex machinery. Guidance on engineering risk management. Guidance on electrical and mechanical design safety. Electrical safety management. Risk management.
People Handling Book – Sheenagh Orchard
Sheenagh Orchard Grade RGN, RNT, CertEd(FE). Diploma in Nursing(London) Registered Member NBE is a moving and handling specialist and worked with us on writing our People Handling book. She is also one of the authors of the 5th and 6th editions of “The Guide to the Handling of People”(Backcare). Predominantly working with community based organisations (currently 12 Councils) she also runs specialist advance courses as well as Trainer and Assessor courses.
Working at Heights (IRL) – Kieran O’ Regan
Kieran worked with us to adapt our Irish Working at Heights Book. Kieran specialises in work at height and associated rescue activities for the past 15 years. He has gained a wealth of experience through contracting and training in fields such as rope access, safety netting, specialist access systems, confined space operations and many others. This experience has led to the development of innovative rescue systems using up to date equipment and techniques. He also has considerable experience in both developing and delivering training courses in the above fields as well as preparing courses for external accreditation with City & Guilds. He has a genuine interest in providing clients with effective and practical solutions to issues they identify in relation to working at height and rescue.
Fire Safety Book – Pete Pinney
Pete Pinney MIFSM GIFireE. FRACS FR30 is a fire safety consultant and worked with us on writing our Fire Safety book.Working as a Fire Fighter and Fire Officer for more than 30 years Pete also taught fire safety principles, fire risk assessment, fire safety legislation, fire safety codes and guides to UK and international fire officers and commercial fire safety practitioners at the Fire Service College for more than 10 years.
Working at Heights (UK) – Dave Randles CMIOSH MIIRSM
Chartered Safety Professional from a scaffolding trade background in (1987) through various Health & Safety roles over the past 20 years, resulting in 28 years construction-industry based experience in a whole host of sectors including rail, pharmaceutical, power generation, nuclear, automotive, food processing, defence, shipbuilding, utilities, heavy engineering & aeronautical and the different management systems those environments utilise. Specialities include scaffolding and work at height and advice provided on these matters extends to technical and operational specification writing (for many blue-chip business from various sectors), work at height, accident investigation, expert witness work and contributing author to several industry publications.
Manual Handling Book & DSE/VDU Book – Sarah Tapley
Sarah Tapley is a Chartered Ergonomist and Human Factors Specialist and worked with us on writing our Manual Handling book and DSE/VDU Book. A Health and Safety Executive with the HSE for 21 years, Her expertise in the inspection of legislation, Health and Safety at Work Act, Workplace regs, DSE regs, Work Equipment regs, Manual Handling Operations regs and Management Regs proved invaluable to us in writing our course notes on the subjects.
